computer software copyright – who owns yours?
Your business may have commissioned software and paid for it in full, but this does not necessarily mean that you own all rights in it. Recent computer software copyright cases have highlighted the need to ensure that parties who are developing software in the course of business should carefully document the software ownership rights in a written contract at the outset to avoid copyright infringement and possibly royalty payments.
what is IP and why is it important?
IP assets are increasingly important in business. They give businesses their cutting edge to succeed. With reports that the economy may take a downturn, never has it been more critical for businesses to take stock of what IP rights they own and manage those rights actively within its overarching business strategy. We strongly recommend that your executive team takes stock and that your Board requests a report of IP management within your business. IP protects company’s creativity, business reputation and goodwill. It is also a valuable competitive asset and can create new business opportunities.
