In tough times you need the best team on your side. Our dispute management lawyers are focussed on achieving clients’ commercial objectives in the face of the most difficult challenges. Our large team is made up of experienced lawyers who specialise in dealing with most kinds of disputes.
We believe it is essential that legal cases do not take on a life of their own, divorced from a client’s business aims. We work closely with clients to understand their commercial objectives, and we do not shy away from giving the difficult advice (when needed) to enable you to evaluate the true merits of a case and likely outcomes. We take a common sense, cost sensitive and proportionate approach to every dispute from the outset. We give practical advice in plain English, thinking creatively of all the solutions on offer.
Although our solicitors are skilled in dealing with all aspects of court proceedings (ranging from urgent injunctions in fraud or intellectual property matters to appeals to the Court of Appeal or House of Lords to enforcement, including insolvency matters) we are strongly committed to using alternative dispute resolution (ADR) for all cases where it is suitable. (ADR encompasses a wide variety of non-court-based processes for resolving disputes through agreement, without a judge or arbitrator. The commonest form of ADR is mediation, though our lawyers are also experienced in resolving disputes through neutral evaluation, expert determination and adjudication.) ADR works if you know how – but it is a trap for the unprepared. Our lawyers regularly take a wide variety of complex cases to successful conclusions through mediation and other forms of ADR, representing our clients tenaciously through tough negotiations and achieving outcomes that are cheaper, quicker and more focussed on business needs than court proceedings can deliver.
We firmly believe in prevention rather than cure, and frequently advise clients on dispute avoidance and best practice as well as providing ‘behind the scenes’ advice on how to resolve disputes informally in the early stages wherever possible. However, when a dispute cannot be avoided we have the skills and experience to help you achieve the right solution. Most importantly, we have a great team of people you will enjoy working with.
