According to recent research undertaken by the Leeds University Business School (Credit Management Research Centre), large firms (those with more than 250 employees) individually write off an estimated £88,000 a year of bad debt. The research also shows that small firms write off an average of £14,000 a year and that one in five UK firms say that bad debt is a serious problem for them, whilst one in three say that late payment represents a serious problem.
Landlords beware – Tenancy Deposit Scheme Regulations now in force
On 6 April 2007, legislation came into force that affects all landlords who let out residential properties in England and Wales on Assured Shorthold Tenancies. It applies to landlords with one property as well as those with large residential portfolios.
