Staff keep on giving at Christmas

Generous staff across all of our offices have been participating in charitable activities during the festive season.

The Cardiff office organised our participation in A Pocketful of Presents Christmas Campaign 2009. This campaign is organised by Business in the Community (BITC). The aim is to ask businesses in Wales to buy a total of 3,000 presents for children (known to Action for Children, home start agencies and women’s refuges) whom without this support may not receive any presents on Christmas Day. A total of 38 presents were collected from the Cardiff , Bristol and Swansea offices and delivered to The Rainbow Centre in Rhiwbina.

The Swansea office participated in Mr X which is in its 50th anniversary year.  The Mr X Appeal is co-ordinated by an anonymous gentleman in Swansea. He arranges a list of around 4,500 children from around 60 child care agencies in South West Wales who would more than likely not receive any presents if it was not for the appeal. The Swansea office took a list of  presents from Mr X and staff within the office purchased presents for 47 children.

A number of the staff in Swansea also kindly gave filled shoeboxes for Operation Shoebox which is one of the largest children's Christmas projects in the world. The boxes go to children who are caught in the midst of wars, natural disasters and extreme poverty in different parts of the world.

The Reading and Oxford offices donated presents to The Giving Tree charity for the third year running. This is an annual project run by the Reading Post, Broad Street Mall shopping centre and Connect Reading. The appeal offers Christmas presents to deprived children in the Reading area via charities including Berkshire Women’s Aid, Parents and Children Together, Royal Berkshire Hospital and Connexions Berkshire. Staff purchased presents for 57 children with gifts ranging from a science kit for a 13-year-old to a baby doll for a 3-year-old.
